Multi-scale electron microscopy data package of nanoporosity in serpentinite

2023-06-19 07:57:02 Open - freely retrievable

To determine the nature of serpentinite nanoporosity, we employed multidimensional electron microscopy in conjunction with granular simulations. We investigated samples from the Mid-Atlantic Ridge and the Røragen ultramafic complex (Norway) using scanning and transmission electron microscopy, as well as the electron backscatter diffraction technique (EBSD). Additionally, to obtain 3-D data, we performed nanotomography using focused-ion beam scanning electron microscopy (FIB-SEM). Our findings reveal that serpentinites act as nanoporous media, with pore sizes predominantly less than 100 nm. The data is organized into 10 folders referred to as Figure X, where X corresponds to the figure number in the primary publication. Detailed information about the files and methods employed can be found in the accompanying readme file.
